Preparing for Christmas Through Journaling
“But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart” (Luke 2:19 ESV).
It is the first week of December and Christmas will be here soon. While it can be easy to get caught up in the busyness of this season – attending Christmas parties, selecting, wrapping and mailing gifts, baking and cooking – use your journaling time to prepare for Christmas. How?
In the weeks leading up to Christmas, choose from some of these Journaling Prompts to help you be ready for this season:
- The weeks leading up to Christmas, beginning with the 4th Sunday before Christmas, are known as Advent (meaning “arrival” or “coming”) to prepare for Jesus’s birth and return. Each week of Advent focuses on a different theme – hope, peace, joy, and love. What are ways you can add more hope, peace, joy, and love to your life and share hope, peace, joy, and love with family, friends, and neighbors?
- What are your thoughts and feelings on the things that need to be done before Christmas? Which ones are truly important and which ones are simply adding unnecessary pressure and stress to do or complete?
- Last but not least, do you now the reason for the season – the birth of Jesus? Reflect on His birth and how His arrival and love have made a difference in and changed your life.
Set aside some quiet time to respond to the above prompts in your journal over the next few weeks. As you use your journaling time to focus on preparing for Christmas, may hope, peace, joy, and love fill your heart and home this season.
